Benefits of Being Bored

Benefits of Being Bored

Bored? Is it's a Good Thing!

Studies have shown that boredom has its benefits. It leads to creativity, productivity, self-reflection, and great successes. Boredom researcher, Wijnand A.P. van Tilburg, Ph.D. believes that when “bored, you feel that your actions are meaningless…it makes you long for different and purposeful activities and, as a result, you turn towards more challenging and meaningful activities, turning towards what you perceive to be really meaningful in life.”

Boredom should be seen as a call to action rather than something to dread. Yes, being bored is painful, but it moves your life forward because it is a vehicle for change.

Esteemed philosopher Bertrand Russell believed that boredom was the key to happiness, saying that “too much excitement is exhausting and, over time, dulls us to the pleasures that come with it.” Boredom, he believed, “is essential to a happy life.”

What do you think? Do you think boredom is a launching pad to make you more productive? Tell me what you think. I'd like to know.
